Sales Tax Information
On April 1st, 2007, the one-half of one percent local sales and use tax and the $20 motor vehicle excise tax, which is in lieu of sales tax, will be implemented.
The revenues generated from the taxes will be used for the following:
- $4,500,000 - Transportation projects
- Connections to the Beltline
- Signal Improvements
- $2,823,000 – Building/Site improvements
- West Hills complex
- Fire Hall
The Minnesota Department of Revenue will be administering and collecting the local sales and use tax. The Minnesota Department of Revenue will be mailing information to businesses located within Owatonna in late January 2007. Questions regarding the motor vehicle excise tax can be forwarded to the Finance Department of the City of Owatonna. The City’s finance department will be administering and collecting the $20 motor vehicle excise tax.
