JOB TITLE:  Parks and Building Maintenance II
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
DIVISION: Parks/Government Buildings

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISORS: Parks Director and Building and Grounds Superintendent

DIRECTION OF OTHERS: None

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:   Be 18 years of age, minimum and hold a valid driver’s license.  Preferable experience in buildings and grounds construction, and light equipment operation.

NATURE OF WORK:  Assist full-time employees on new construction or renovation projects to buildings or grounds.

WORK PERFORMED/AREAS OF RESPONSIBILTIY:

I. Assist in improvements to or additional construction of athletic facilities.

II. Assist in construction of new buildings or renovation to existing buildings.

III. Work on the erection of and maintenance of ice rinks and public skating areas.

IV.  Perform sanding, painting, or staining procedures to equipment, construction materials, playground structures, park amenities, building steps and railings.

V. Assist in other building and grounds functions when required.
a. Moving picnic tables and bleachers
b. Performs janitorial functions

VI.  Operation of riding mowers, push mowers, grounds trimmers, snow blowers and powered brooms.

VII. Report any damage within parks or buildings to your supervisor immediately.

VIII. Report any vehicle or equipment damage to your supervisor immediately.

IX. Report any personal injury or accident to your supervisor immediately.

X. Answers questions of the general public when in the field, or directs public to the proper employee.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS:

I. Valid Minnesota driver’s license.

EQUIPMENT AND TOOL OPERATION:

I. Will operate equipment that may include but not limited to:  Toro brooms,
blowers, mowers, trimmers, push mowers, skid loaders, tractors, over seeders,
turf shapers, trucks, mobile radios, chain saws, brush chipper, ladders, hand
and power tools.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

In compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act the following represents the Physical and Environmental Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk on uneven and rough terrain as well as paved and unpaved trails, use hands and arms to handle and manipulate objects, tools, or controls; and operate foot controls on equipment.  The employee frequently is required to stand.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.  When training others in equipment operation the employee is frequently exposed to bouncing, jostling, twisting, and turning of the upper body.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
