Special Events:

Trick or Treat Trail:  Start out at Morehouse Chalet, where there will be activities and snacks, and venture the family-friendly spooky trail towards Lake Kohlmeier.  Along the trail visit local businesses for trick or treating, crafts, face painting, a photo shoot and other fun activities!  This is a FREE event for families of all ages!  Date: Saturday, October 25, 3:00 to 5:00PM.  Click here for more information.

Cabela's Fall Festival:   Saturday, November 8 Cabela’s will be featuring the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.  Schedule of events include: 9:00AM to 12:00PM – the Capitol Christmas Tree will be displayed and live entertainment will be provided; 9:00 to 10:00AM – coloring contest and food shelf drive; 10:30AM – WWII veteran ceremony and coloring contest winners announced.  Fire rings will be placed near the stage to keep you warm and snacks and beverages will be provided.  Click here for more information and click here for coloring contest sheet.

Pickleball Tournament:  The Owatonna Pickleball Association and Owatonna Parks & Recreation will be hosting a Pickleball Tournament on November 14th & 15th.  The tournament is open to anyone age 10 and up.  Click here for more information and registration.

Darn Near Full Moon Festival:  We’re still working on details, but mark your calendars for Sunday, January 4, 2015! We will have a bonfire with hotdog roasting at 5:30 PM.  After you fill your belly you can run, walk, hop, skip, jump, ski or snow shoe down the trail and enjoy a story along the way.  We will have several posts along the trail with pages from a children’s book attached.  You’ll have to walk the whole trail to read to the end of the story.   After you complete the trail walk, meet back at the chalet for a short winter movie.  Another FREE family event!

Dog Park Now Open!

A brand new, 1.6 acre off-leash dog park is now open at Lake Chase!  Lake Chase is located at 1915 State Ave NW.  Head out with your furry friend for some exercise and a tail waggin' good time!  Click here for the Dog Park rules.

Photo Contest

Take your best shot in the 1st Annual Photo Contest sponsored by Owatonna Parks & Recreation and Owatonna Tourism!  Contest categories include: Beauty in the Parks, Highlights of Owatonna and Photos by Youth.  All photos should be submitted by email to: by October 31, 2014.  All entries must include the following: Photographer's name, phone number and age (only provide age if entering Photos by Youth category), which category you are entering, and name of location or area in which the photo was taken.  Great prizes will be awarded to winners!  Click here for full details and rules of the competition.

City Deer Hunt

A deer hunt will be held in the wooded city parks this fall.  Park areas include: Hamman Park, Kaplan's Woods, Kaplan's Woods Parkway, North Straight River Park area, Mineral springs Park, Leo Rudolph Nature Reserve, Manthey Park, Maple Creek Parkway and Kriesel Park.  If you'd like more information regarding where the hunt will be held please contact our office at 507-444-4321.

We are currently taking registrations for the following youth programs:

  • Basketball ($10 late fee applied)
  • Learn to Skate Hockey

Brooktree Golf Course

Parks Pavilion Rentals

Pavilion Rentals are available one year in advance.  Call the Parks and Recreation office at 444-4321 or stop by our office to make a reservation. Payment is due at the time of the reservation.
