Director's Message
Welcome to Owatonna Park and Recreation Spring/Summer 2013
This spring/summer brochure will be of help to you as our department advertises its seasonal programs, activities, and amenities with this feature. Included in this brochure is information about the River Springs Water Park, Brooktree Golf Course, SeniorPlace, Parks, Tennis and Fitness Center, and Adult, Youth and Therapeutic Recreation Programs and Activities. Also check what’s all “NEW” in 2013. Pickleball, expansion of “Movies in the Park”, River Springs Water Park Specials, Senior Games and new age limit at Brooktree Golf Course to name a few. Our department has also purchased a new software system which will be coming soon………We hope to implement a new software system – Max Solutions for our Fall Registration. This will be a great asset to the Parks and Recreation Department. Please be patient with us as we are currently working on getting the program up and running. Once we have the programs ready to go you will be able to register on-line with no extra fees! You will pay the same price if you register in person or on-line. We are very excited to get this program set up for all the users.
Parks and Recreation are vitally important to establishing and maintaining the quality of life in a community, ensuring the health of family’s youth, and contributing to the economic and environmental well-being of a community. Research has clearly shown that Parks and Recreation helps reduce obesity, depression, and crime, all while building stewardship, cultural diversity, economic development, alternative transportation and academic success. There are no communities that pride themselves on their quality of life, promote themselves as a desirable location for businesses to relocate, or maintain that they are environmental stewards of their natural resources, without such communities having a robust, active system of parks and recreation programs for public use and enjoyment.
The quotation “The City of Friendliness and Beautiful Parks” is used on the City of Owatonna letterhead. Your Owatonna Park and Recreation Department is proud of this and to the best of our ability, we will continue to provide service to honor it for the citizens of Owatonna.
For information please go on line to our website www.ci.owatonnna.mn.usas we have expanded the information that is listed. Also the Owatonna Peoples Press, KRFO and KOWZ radio provide a source of information for our department. Check us out on Facebook as well.
Remember that the City of Owatonna has eliminated the non-resident fees; this comes about because of an agreement with Steele County. All citizens within the county will pay the same fee for recreation programs. Participants from outside the county will still pay the outside player fee. Please note that fees listed that are payable to Owatonna Park and Recreation now state they include sales tax.
Make time to take advantage of your Parks and Recreation trails, facilities, and programs during this wonderful time of year! We welcome your comments and suggestions about our facilities and programs. Let us know how we are doing.
“The Benefits are Endless” as “Your Best Investment” is your Parks and Recreation Department!
Sincerely,
James “Corky” Ebeling
Director of Parks and Recreation
