World War II with Local Historian Mike Eckers
Thursday, January 23 at 6:00pm. Michael Eckers, an Owatonna author, speaker and historian has studied American military history for more than four decades. He has written several books, fiction and non-fiction, about young men and women who have made personal sacrifices on the altar of freedom, defending our nation. Michael served in the US Navy at the end of the Vietnam War and his father flew nearly a dozen bombing missions in the air over Germany before becoming a prisoner of war after his plan was blown from the sky.
Alzheimer's Association Care Consultation
Wednesday, February 12 by appointment. Are you living with Alzheimer's disease? Alzheimer's Association Care Consulation will be available at the Owatonna SeniorPlace by appointment the afternoon of February 12, 2014. A care consulation is designed for the person with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia and/or their family care partners. It provides for a private meeting with Jodi Keller, Alzheimer's Association Southern Minnesota Center Director, to talk about questions and concerns, learn about services and treatments, and make more informed decisions about care.
Medicare Basics - The ABCDs
Tuesday, March 11 AND Thursday, March 13, 5:30 - 8:00pm, Board Room, Deadline: March 7. If you are turning 65 or going on Medicare this is the class taht will help you understand it! The cost for this two day class is $3.00 for members and $5.00 for non-members. You must register by March 7. The class will cover the parts of Medicare-hospital, medical and drug options, including original/traditional Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare advantage plans, preventitive benefits, Medicare savings programs, preventing fraud, waste and abuse, and resources to help you make decisions. The instructor is Jerry Roberts is a certified State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) Counselor with the Senior LinkAge Line.
Antique Appraisal Event
Saturday, May 31, starting at 10:00am. Due to a fantastic program held in October 2013, Mark is returning to SeniorPlace! Mark Moran is a former senior editor of Antiques and Collectibles Books for Krause Publications in Iola, Wisconsin. He has also been a contributing editor for Antique Trader magazine and a guest expert on the PBS series, Antiques Roadshow. He is the author or co-author of more than 25 books on antiques and collectibles, including the 800-page annual Warman's Antiques and Collectibles, now in its 45th edition. Moran bought and sold antiques for more than 30 years, specializing in vintage folk art, Americana, and fine art. He has been active as an appraiser of antiques and fine art for more than 20 years.
Cost--$15 per item appraisal fee, where a portion of the appraisal fees are donated to SeniorPlace Inc.
