Owatonna Parks and Recreation, SeniorPlace, Inc., and Owatonna Tourism, co-chaired the 2013 Minnesota Senior Games. The committee was charged with fundraising to registration, social events, and activities.
2013 Senior Games Dates: June 19-22, 2013
There were 371 athletes participating in over 500 events coming from over 25 states. Athletes could compete in as many as five sports during the four days of competition. Anyone between the ages of 50-99 could register for the games. Anne Pleskonko, senior citizens director for Owatonna SeniorPlace, said this year's oldest participant is from Dickinson, ND, coming in at 93 years old. Minnesota Senior Games Coordinator, Fritz Bukowski, from Alexandria thanked the number of volunteers who came out to help make the games run smoothly and said they were second to none compared to previous games. Fritz said in a letter to the editor, that as a first time visitor to Owatonna, he could actually feel a sense of pride to serve in all the volunteers he encoutered each day. The citizens of the Owatonna area are very fortunate to have such hard-working and dedicated people who will go to the greatest lengths to ensure events like the Minnesota Senior Games are successfully hosted in your community. Thanks Volunteers!!!
